School starts tomorrow, “remote teaching” and I hate it. If people would have followed directions all summer this might not be necessary, idiots!

We just found out that we’ll be doing distance learning for the foreseeable future. I’m conflicted. I feel that it will be easier than being in person, but know that I could just be delusional from being off for so long. I’m annoyed that I can’t get out of the house, because I needed that change of scenery. I miss my students. I can’t build proper connections online. It’ll be safer for my family this way. I hate this virus, the uncertainty it causes, and the people that don’t take it seriously.

I have been teaching for 15 years and this is the worst year I have ever had. I am going back because I love my students and I want them to know that they deserve to succeed. I hate my administration!! My principal is a hateful, awful person that makes me want to scream, cry and quit.

My student was erasing the whiteboard and asked me if I wanted her to erase the F word.
I’m thinking how to respond to this problem when I look to the board, and it was the word fabulous!

I messed up on a fact today in class. This is my first year teaching Shakespeare. Super anxious about the impression it must have caused on the students. Is it just me or does it happen with everyone?

So, I didn’t actually hate distance-learning. It allowed me to focus on lesson plans and individualized feedback and I didn’t have to put up with all the stupid crap of lunch duties and study hall duties and discipline. I also loved not getting up ridiculously early and instead being able to roll out of bed to my first meeting at 8:30 AM. I would be OK with continuing to teach remotely for a long period of time…

I miss the kids, except for the usually horrible ones. Kind of glad these whole meeting are about to end! I was always on mute commenting on the stupid questions and my video was off because I was drinking. I’m deleting every single app from my phone that has to do with work! Bye-bye people!

I cried through every Hangout with my kids–I’ll miss them. However, today was our last virtual meeting for the staff, and everyone was crying about how much they were going to miss each other. I was on mute and my video was off because I was literally pouring champagne and celebrating making it through this year! Peace, Mean Girls!

I’m anxious.

Because tomorrow is Friday.

I won’t be high-fiving my favorite kids tomorrow.

Beaming with pride as they serve our school in their safety and service positions.

Being in my inspiring building with my colleagues, sharing coffee together, and swapping ideas & laughs as we prepare for the weeks ahead.

Planning engaging lessons with responsive instruction & small groups…. by the minute.

Hearing your funny quips.

Consoling & strategizing with you when your friend wouldn’t sit next to you on the bus.

Feeling the magic and connections in the room during read aloud.

Playing lightning with you at recess…

Usually… I’m excited for Friday’s….

But not tomorrow.

I’ll have to settle with chatting & learning with you with you through a computer screen…..
Zoom, email, SeeSaw….
Don’t get me wrong… you’ve been resilient and brilliant through that screen…. and so have I.

But there’s something about our Fridays that I miss.

Missing my kids so very much. Afraid of starting next year under the umbrella of remote learning.
