I’m changing careers. Only a few more days of dealing with low paychecks for high stress. Only a few more days of dealing with crappy administrators who don’t care about us or the students and only care about covering their own butts. But those few days that are left definitely drag on…

I think we should be allowed to slap one parent per year.

The teacher next door yells at the students daily. Lacks empathy and any real connection to the students or other teachers. I’m not sure I can last another year at this school (I’ve been here 12).

Really bothers me when administration can’t keep their ish together and maintain a safe environment. Nobody likes working in my school. Everyone is so eager to leave and I don’t blame them. Every morning I look out the window I only see one or two admin’s cars in the parking lot. The rest come later during the day or sometimes don’t show up at all. What if something happens and all admin are needed? C’mon man, you can’t leave a school unprotected.

During 3rd grade recess, a male student placed a post-it note on a girl’s back which read “you suck dick for a dollar.” Though the gym had cameras, the principal informed me “it’s too much work to figure out who did it.” I was appalled and told the student the principal was very upset and working to figure out who wrote it.

I teach 7th-8th grade student with Emotional Disabilities. Another teacher has 6th-7th grade. At the end of the year, all teachers get together in the conference room to discuss next year’s rosters. I walk into the meeting like it’s draft day and I need to make the first selections before all of the “good ones” are taken…but seriously though, I love my job and all my students! This is my second year teaching and even though this age group is very difficult, I love that I can joke around with them and really form a bond with them.

We ALL know the last two weeks of school is insane… grades due, field days, testing, ‘full moon must be out’ behavior, EVERYTHING due yesterday, exhaustion… so we had in one day (Friday, of course) -our last observation walkthrough right as we are lining up for recess, a lock-down practice, tornado drill AND evacuation practice. Oh, yes, they rewarded all kids with a popsicle at lunch on the day we had to be silent for other grades to state test. Is it summer yet?

We have two assistant principals with opposing ideas of classroom management. They take turns doing the observation walkthroughs. So this is the review remarks I received.
AP A: Don’t worry about the little toys they bring in. Pick your battles. I’m sending you this long article about classroom management.
AP B: He had a toy. I’m sending you this long article about classroom management.

I was really struggling to deal with a kid at my old school- attention span of zero, aggression, self confidence issues, lack of respect for any kind of adult figure due to previous traumas.
The boss didn’t believe there was an issue until she came to my room one day and had a chair thrown at her head.
My AP suggested, when I asked for additional support time, that I visit my doctor and ask for some ‘coping medication’.
First contract I have ever broken early.
