10 Things Heard From 2nd Graders During the Solar Eclipse

1 min

Experiencing the eclipse with forty 2nd graders is an experience in itself. Beyond the “PUT YOUR GLASSES BACK ON!” and “I TOLD YOU TWICE TO PUT YOUR GLASSES ON!” there were some pretty cool things going on. Many of the kids really took to heart that this is something special and asked some awesome questions during it. Others, not so much. Here are 10 things overheard during our 98% totality eclipse party at school.

1. “Do I have to wear these glasses? They don’t go with my outfit today.”

2. “Hey Mr.McCall, if I only put these glasses on one eye and look normal on the other, it’s only half as bright!”

3. “I’m not looking at the sun, just to the side of it so it’s not as bright!”

4. “Why is the moon a perfect circle? BrainPOP said there were craters on it. Somebody is lying.”

5. “Is that it? I thought there would be an explosion?!?!”

6. “Has it started yet? (after announcing 2 minutes ago this was the apex)”

7. “When do the stars come out? They must not have known it was an eclipse today.”

8. Me: “What was your favorite part?” Kid: “We didn’t have to do math today.”

9. “Can we have an eclipse every day? It wasn’t as hot and I like that.”

10. “Can I skip this one? I’ll live to the next one and I’ll probably enjoy it more like you teachers are.”
