Mom’s Hilarious Rant About Teaching Sight Words Is Just Too Relatable

You'll LOL at Mom's Rant About the Hardships of Teaching Sight Words

Tiffany Jenkins of “Juggling the Jenkins” is one of social media’s funniest and most relatable moms. She recently went on a rant about teaching sight words to her child that will have parents and teachers cracking up while nodding in agreement.

“Honestly, eff a ‘sight word”

This is the video caption, so you know where she stands on the topic right off the bat.

Tiffany starts the video by saying, “I’m not trying to be dramatic, but if site words had a face I would punch it.”

She then demonstrates attempting to explain some tricky sight words:

  • the silent w‘s in “know” (just pretend like the first and last letters aren’t even there…)
  • the o in “one” sounds like a w (how are kids supposed to know that?)
  • eight and ate sound the same (even though they look totally different)
  • the silent w in “two” (maybe it’s just there for “pizazz”)
  • that “read” can be past or present tense (you just have to know which one it is…)

“I sound like a lunatic trying to explain these words to my kid,” she says.

Parents around the United States are helping their kids with schoolwork more than ever and are experiencing first hand the huge amount of skill and patience required to teach topics like sight words. Hopefully, this will help put an end to condescending comments like, “Anyone can teach kindergarten,” and “Those who can do, and those who can’t teach.”

Jenkins closes the video by tipping her hat to educators,

“Shout out to all the teachers because I can’t freaking do this.”
