Personality Quiz: Are You a Type A or a Type B Teacher?

Can we tell if you’re a Type A or a Type B teacher by asking a few questions? Take the quiz and find out!

  1. 1 It's Sunday night, your favorite show is on, your significant other just ordered a pizza, but you still have some grading to finish. What do you do?

    1. Grab a blanket, curl up on the couch, stuff your face with pizza, and finish grading tomorrow morning before school starts.
    2. You already have the show scheduled to be recorded, you eat your pizza at the table while you finish grading, organize all papers in alphabetical order, and watch your show the next night.
  2. 2 It's 11:30 am, you have 10 minutes to make copies, go to the bathroom, eat your lunch, and check emails. What do you do?

    1. You already made copies for the entire week over the weekend, you allot 4 minutes to eat your Mason jar salad and granola bar, 3 minutes to record your calorie intake while checking e-mails, 2 minutes to wipe down the desks in your classroom, and 1 minute to stop at the bathroom on the way to picking up your class from the cafeteria.
    2. You try to make copies but give up as soon as the copier jams, you heat up your microwave burrito and eat it in the bathroom while scrolling through social media on your phone. The emails can wait, they're not going anywhere!
  3. 3 It's August, school starts soon, your classroom is empty, but there's no air conditioning in the school. What do you do?

    1. You sleep in, first of all. Summer is almost over, gotta take advantage while you can! Besides, no air? It's way too hot! You order some stuff to hang in your classroom off Amazon Prime while binging on that Netflix series you're halfway through. When you have to go in for a mandatory back-to-school staff meeting, you kill two birds with one stone and tack your Prime purchases up on the walls of your classroom.
    2. You finished your lesson plans for the new school year back in the beginning of summer so you'd have time to plan the theme of your classroom. You storm the aisles of Target and go in several weeks early to start setting up, you label everything as soon as your class list arrives, and you record the entire process on your blog and social pages.
  4. 4 You're in a staff meeting, and someone makes a suggestion that you don't agree with. What do you do?

    1. You raise your hand and speak your mind about why don't agree with them. This is a democracy after all!
    2. You keep it to yourself because you're not a fan of confrontation. In the next meeting, you prepare a diplomatic way to suggest alternative options to their suggestion.
    3. You make a "WTF" face but stop yourself from saying anything because you know it's only going to make the meeting last longer.
  5. 5 You're in the middle of your lesson and admin sits down in the back of the room to observe your class. What do you do?

    1. Just go with the flow. You know the majority of your end-of-the-year evaluation has more to do with the test scores your students get, so no worries. Pretend there's no one there and teach how you teach every other day.
    2. Anxiety overcomes you. You start to sweat in places you don't normally sweat. You discover veins in your forehead you never knew were there when one of your students starts acting up, and you follow your detailed lesson plan down to the very end. You won't accept a negative evaluation!
  6. 6 It's November 1st. What are you thinking?

    1. OMG it's Christmas season! I'm staying late tonight to break out the holiday decorations and turn my classroom into Santa's workshop before Ms. Henderson puts up her Polar Express themed classroom again!
    2. The only thing I'm doing tonight is getting to the bottom of my kids' bags of Halloween candy over a glass of red, and falling into a deep sugar coma before 9:00.
  7. 7 You wake up with a fever and a sore throat. What do you do?

    1. You spend the morning creating detailed plans for the substitute teacher, catch up on some grading and laundry, and cook a pot of homemade chicken noodle soup.
    2. You call in sick, chug some drowsy cold medicine, and go back to sleep. When you wake up, you order some food to be delivered and lay on the couch with a hot cup of tea and a bowl of popcorn while you wait for it to arrive.
  8. 8 Which of the following best describes the desk drawers in your classroom?

    1. A combination of dried-up whiteboard markers, dull-tip pencils, candy wrappers, tangled chargers wires, and some silverware. Stacks of papers that used to cover the top of your desk fill up the others drawer(s).
    2. A drawer organizer with all your pencils, flair pens, and pens separated, labeled containers and color-coordinated folders for all your paper and worksheets.
  9. 9 Another teacher comes to you during your prep time to tell you a funny story about something that happened in his/her class. What do you do?

    1. You smile and laugh to be polite but you keep glancing at the clock because you just want to finish your lesson plans before the prep time is over.
    2. You listen, laugh, then share a similar story about your class. Then you ask them if they want to go grab some coffee from the break room because you really need to just get out of your classroom for a little bit.
  10. 10 It's World Book Day. What do you come to school looking like?

    1. You throw on the Dr. Seuss t-shirt you ordered off Amazon 2 days prior and get to school 10 minutes before school starts with coffee spilled on it already.
    2. You coordinate a group costume theme weeks in advance with all the teachers from your grade-level, to dress up as the characters from Harry Potter. organize to meet 30 minutes before school starts to finish makeup prep and take a group photo.
