School closings are forcing parents to stay home with their kids. But not like the sweet poolside days of summer break. Oh no. The school year is not over and their children still need to learn. So guess who’s got a new role as a substitute teacher… that’s right, you’re up mom and dad, homeschool is in session! For most, it has only been a few days and they’re already taking to Twitter with more gratitude for teachers than ever before. Here’s what they’re saying…
1.
At the end of the first day of my kids being out of school after our attempts at “homeschooling”… my conclusion… teachers are superheroes. The end.

If people didn’t already believe that teachers deserve raises, the next several weeks of folks homeschooling their kids are really about to prove it.

I wonder how many parents homes schooling today still think teaching is an easy profession and teachers are overpaid? Keeping in mind teachers have 30 kids per class.
— ???? ??????? (@DrBradJohnson) March 17, 2020
Teachers may be getting some sweet notes or treats or maybe even some apologies in a few weeks. ?
13.
I am 30 minutes into home schooling my 6 year old. I suggest that all school teachers are paid £1m per year from now on.

This pandemic has already revealed that:
— Nicholas Ferroni (@NicholasFerroni) March 17, 2020
– schools are so much more than just schools.
– many people now realize how tough it is to be a teacher and that teachers are grossly underpaid.
– teachers are irreplaceable and essential to learning and education. #homeschooling

So society’s *real* key workers have just been revealed.
— Rachel Clarke (@doctor_oxford) March 18, 2020
Not the bankers. Not the traders. Not the elite hedge fund managers.
It’s the nurses. The doctors. The delivery drivers. The carers. The porters. The teachers. The shelf stackers. The check out staff. #COVID19

I’ve homeschooled my kids for 1 day and I’ve already learned so much, like their teachers need a huge raise and also I should never ever be a teacher.
— Mommy Owl (@Lhlodder) March 16, 2020

One hour into homeschooling and all I can say is teachers are heroes and patriots and they deserve huge raises.

Observations 2.5 hours into homeschooling 4 kids
— Christina Marleau (@c_marleau) March 17, 2020
-teachers need to make more than professional athletes, CEO’s, and all of Hollywood combined
-homeschooling will NOT be on our future plan after this is over
-never too early for a drink
21.
Hopeful that nationwide homeschooling will teach us all a lesson: Our teachers deserve a raise. A big one.

seeing a lot of tweets about how folks are newly appreciating teachers w/kids at home and well…I really hope you mean it. when I was a teacher never did I work so hard, stretch so much intellectually, emotionally, and physically. and never was I so regularly disrespected.

Day 3: Homeschooling Officially SHUTDOWN!
— Dr. Kristopher J. Childs ??? (@DrKChilds) March 18, 2020
* Teacher has quit (Me)
* 1 student has been skipping
* 1 student dropped out
* Copier (printer) jammed
* Cafeteria (pantry/kitchen) snacks have ALL been eaten
* Grandma After School Program has banned the kids
P.S. out of toilet paper
25.
I can’t wait for the next round of parent/teacher conferences when all the parents who used to say – “not my child! He/she is an ANGEL” – start saying – “yeah, my kid is a dick. I brought you wine” #homeschooling #COVID19 #TeacherAppreciation

Homeschooling report from my husband today:
— Amy McGrath (@AmyMcGrathKY) March 19, 2020
2 students suspended for fighting.
1 “teacher” seriously in need of a classroom aide.
27.
Here’s hoping that one of the positive consequences of all this unexpected homeschooling is that teachers are more widely respected and supported. (And we could probably stand to pay them a bit more too.)
