The new school year is right around the corner and some new tools have just been released for teachers, although the tools themselves might be a little controversial. Claude AI, run by Anthropic, has just unveiled Claude for Teachers, a free program currently available for educators in the United States. The program offers several tools to save teachers time and help with everything from lesson plans to tracking student data but this will be sure to rekindle the conversation about AI infiltrating education and whether or not it’s a move worth making. 1. Creating Lesson Plans
At the top of the list of offerings is the ability to have Claude create lesson plans for you in no time flat. Claude is connected to the learning standards for all 50 states, the learning competencies and the order they’re most commonly taught so theoretically with a few simple keystrokes your lesson plan time could be cut down dramatically.
2. Differentiation at the push of a button
We can all agree that trying to differentiate your plans for a classroom full of kiddos with individual learning goals can be a nightmare. Now with Claude’s new program, it can dive into your data and do the differentiating for you.
3. Creating assessments based on what your students need
Another huge time-suck for teachers has always been building proper assessments and making sure you can check for the understanding you’re looking for. Now Claude can generate instant quizzes tied to the exact standards you’re working on and push it out to students instantly.
4. Doing the dirty work that eats up any free time you may have
Claude’s new teacher program isn’t only promising assistance with your students, but with parents and administrators as well. It offers the ability to draft parent newsletters and e-mails, and even do the data dives for you so you’re well prepared for that next PLC. Anthropic says the goal is to give you more time doing the things you enjoy doing (like teaching) and less of the behind-the-scenes drudgery.
While some teachers will undoubtedly be quick to grab onto this new tool and see what it’s capable of, there will be others that prefer the hands-on approach and are still wary of AI in general.
