Look, today’s kids have no idea what teaching was like back in the day. Us Gen Xers and Millennials had some truly wild teachers that got away (at least temporarily anyway) with some remarkable things. We asked you all to send in the wildest thing your teacher did when you were a kid and y’all did not disappoint. So sit back, take a sip from that hidden “water bottle” that you keep in your desk and relive some amazing memories with us.
1. The teacher that took “classroom pet” to a bizarre level
That’s OK, you didn’t need to say this was the 80’s, I think the presence of a rooster more than explained that for us already.
2. The teacher that knew what their priorities were
First of all, how the heck did you get that TV into the classroom in the first place? Those things were insanely heavy. Secondly, couldn’t you have least turned today’s episode into a writing prompt or something?
3. The teacher that may have taken classroom management too far
We saw stories of teachers throwing erasers, books and just about everything else at kids if they were sleeping. But a fetal pig? That is a brave choice.
4. The teacher that had clearly been pushed to the brink
This is clearly a teacher that has had many things thrown at her in her career. Hopefully she wasn’t teaching next door to the teacher that had the pet rooster.
5. The teacher that… wait WHAT?
HOW IS THIS THE ONLY SENTENCE IN THIS POST?? WHERE ARE THE DETAILS?? At the very least I demand to know that episode of Dateline they were on.
6. The teacher that knew kids back then could be trusted
See, back in the day we knew how to keep a good thing going. A teacher that would trust us enough to take naps and let us do our own thing? You protect that teacher at all costs.
7. The teacher that found a creative way to teach math
See there are many good lessons you can learn from this teacher. Statistics, probability, how to never owe money to anyone named Tommy the Thumb.
8. The teacher that got a little too creative with classroom management
I’m sure that was effective, but I’m also 100% sure you’d be fired on the spot for even suggesting that today.
9. The teacher that took on the class bully and won with flying colors
Now I’m not suggesting we bring back violence into the classroom… but I am suggesting that hanging a bully by their belt loop would solve a lot of problems.
10. The teacher that never skipped arm day at the gym
I can only imagine this student was in elementary school. Have you seen middle and high schoolers these days? I pulled a muscle in my back just thinking about lifting one of them up.
11. The teacher with the completely ineffective means of managing a classroom
Yes, let’s take two kids that are talking a lot and put them under a large desk by themselves. What could possibly go wrong? I shudder to think what would happen if anyone tried that today.
12. The teacher that wishes Pinterest existed back in the day
Oh the list of classroom props we had to deal with. Anyone here ever have to wear a dunce cap? Meanwhile if this would be allowed today, someone online would make a fortune selling these things. Every teacher would need a classroom set.
13. The teacher that snapped in front of everybody
Oh man, how many of us wish we could do this? No words, no yelling, no screaming. Just stop what you’re doing, yet yourself out the window and run to freedom.
14. The teacher that held a very long grudge
At some point in our lives, we all came across a teacher that we were fairly sure had a dark and twisted upbringing. I’m sure this teacher lives on in many students’ nightmares.
15. The teacher that knew that one cool trick
Seriously, the list of people that told us about teachers throwing things at them was crazy. Flinging pennies across the room is wild though. Can you imagine the parent-teacher conference if he ever made contact with one of those things?
16. The teacher that instilled a love of musical theater in their students
Bonus points if the teacher took the time to teach the harmonies as well. If you’re going to be ridiculous you need to go all the way with it.
17. The teacher that would stop at nothing to make learning fun
See, these are the things that made us want to be teachers when we were kids. And really, what’s so wrong about decorating your room with pig intestines?
18. The teacher that knew what was important
Sometimes you just need to take a break from the lessons and watch a student testify in front of Judge Judy. That’s exciting no matter where you live.
19. The teacher that had no problems breaking the rules
These days you need signed permission slips and an act of God to take a class trip somewhere. Back in the day we could just… go get some ice cream. Good times, good times.
20. The teacher that existed on vibes… and probably edibles
You just know this teacher was trying so hard to connect to her students and I’m sure her chakras got all misaligned when she found out most of the kids snuck out the room.
